Baka ("Baka", "we", "us") runs a discounts and rewards network for customers in Accra, and Baka Business, a free app for running a small business in Ghana. This page covers the joinbaka.com website and the Baka Business app.

This website

This website does not run any sign-up forms and does not collect personal information directly. It links out to the Baka Business app (on the App Store, on Google Play and at merchant.joinbaka.com) and to our WhatsApp contact.

Customers

Customers don't need an app. If you join a business's list by scanning its QR code, or a business adds you with your agreement, your details become part of that business's customer list, described below. You can opt out of SMS at any time.

The Baka Business app

Baka Business (formerly Baka Merchant) is the app for business owners. On iPhone, Android and at merchant.joinbaka.com, it collects:

  • Your phone number, so you can log in with an SMS code.
  • Your business details: name, category, town, address, Google Maps link and the discount you offer.
  • The financial records you enter: money in and money out, debts and payments.
  • Names and phone numbers of customers and suppliers you add to your books.
  • Your customer list: customers who joined by scanning your QR code, or who you added with their agreement.
  • The weekly SMS messages you send to your customers.

We use this information to run the app for you: to log you in, keep your books, show your customer list and send your weekly SMS.

Your books are private

Your financial records are private to your business. Only you can see them. Baka staff don't view them.

If Baka ever wants to use anonymised, combined data, we will update these terms and ask businesses to agree first.

SMS messages

A business can send one SMS a week to customers who agreed to it. These messages are sent under the BAKA sender name, through an SMS provider acting on Baka's behalf. Every customer can opt out at any time.

We don't sell your data

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with third parties.

Ghana law

Baka follows Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

Delete your account

You can delete your Baka Business account at any time, in the app or on merchant.joinbaka.com:

  1. Tap the round button at the top right.
  2. Tap Account.
  3. Tap Delete account.

Your account, businesses, books and customer lists are deleted immediately.

Contacting us on WhatsApp

If you message us on WhatsApp, that conversation is subject to WhatsApp's own privacy policy. We use the information you share with us there to respond to your message and, for businesses, to help you get started with Baka. We do not sell your information to third parties.

Your choices

You can ask us to update or delete information you've shared with us by contacting us via our Contact page.

Changes to this policy

As Baka's products grow, this policy will be updated to reflect changes to how the website and apps work.
